In this video, I show how a single $5 chip (U8450) can completely kill an iMac A1418 logic board, causing the classic “won’t turn on / black screen” problem.

This tiny power-sequence driver controls a key voltage rail (PP12V_S0) — and when it fails, the iMac stays dead even though the standby LED and 12 V are present.

I demonstrate how to diagnose this fault step-by-step, measure the gate voltage of the MOSFET, and confirm the issue by manually injecting voltage into the gate line.
A quick test proves the iMac’s power supply and MOSFET are fine — the real culprit is the U8450 driver IC.

In this video, I repair a KONFORT 605E air conditioning recharging station, a professional-grade unit used in automotive workshops.
The board had multiple errors — wrong time and date, calibration issues, and other random faults — all traced back to a dead soldered BIOS battery.

To solve the problem properly, I desoldered the old CMOS battery and added a socket holder, so future replacements will be quick and safe without the need for soldering.

While inside, I also cleaned light rust and corrosion on the board, inspected all connectors, and performed a full functionality test. After the repair, the KONFORT 605E started up normally, retained time and calibration, and is now fully operational.

This board is very expensive and hard to find, so repairing it instead of replacing it can save hundreds of euros.
